Farming Seminar Well Received
Abacus Group hosted prominent agricultural figure Jacqueline Rowarth at the TSB Hub in Hawera in July 2nd. Over 50 local farmers turned out to hear Jacqueline’s take on the global positioning of New Zealand farming, and how farming gives us a competitive edge in the rapidly changing world.
She was very well received with her views, and also interactive style whereby the audience was encouraged to voice their views and opinions. And most of all, she is a fantastic person to talk with, making herself available to chat one-on-one to everyone before and after the function. Many thanks again to Jacqueline from the Abacus team, and we know you will be available to speak for us in Taranaki again in the future.

Life Insurance Costs Set to Rise 24/09/09
Insurance
expert Vance Arkinstall says the timing
of higher taxes on life insurance policies is unfortunate
as NZ is just
coming out of recession.
The cost of life insurance is about to rise by up to 25 percent as
Inland Revenue increases the tax on higher risk policies.
In the past, most people took out whole life and endowment policies but
are now favouring higher risk-based insurance policies.
Investment Savings and Insurance Association chief executive Vance
Arkinstall says tax is paid on insurance when the policy holder pays
the premium, not when they get the money. He believes the timing of the
tax hike is unfortunate.
"We're just coming out of a recession. It's a shame they didn't delay
it for a short period to allow people to readjust to the new
environment."
The changes come into effect mid-way through next year.

Local Businesses Reap Rewards 04/08/09
Two
local businesses have benefited from a promotion run by local personal
risk advisers, Abacus Group.
Kane and Gayleen Innes, the directors of Grow Well Landscape Supplies
in Bell Block, won a four night luxury escape to Melbourne and Ag
Traction in Waiwakaiho won a $200 voucher to Table restaurant at Nice
Hotel for its Directors, Trent Hall and Paul Stanton. Both businesses
entered in to Abacus Group’s Insurance Survey promotion.
Rob Gordon from Abacus says, “The aim of this promotion was
to discover what levels of insurance cover are held by Taranaki
business owners so that we can better tailor our offerings and remain
at the forefront of providing specialist risk advice to Taranaki
business owners.”
“What we discovered was that although Taranaki businesses
generally recognise the need for life cover, many are underinsured in
the areas of income protection and, in particular, trauma
cover.”
“This promotion also enabled Abacus to get out there, face to
face, and talk to a great many hardworking Taranaki business owners and
it is great to see the prizes go to such worthy recipients”
Abacus Group provides specialist advice to farmers and business owners
in the areas of life cover, trauma cover, income protection and health
cover.
